Following the success of our previous convention, the Texas Jewelers Association is excited to announce our highly anticipated 2025 Annual Convention, scheduled for November 1st and 2nd in the vibrant city of Austin, Texas. 8:00-9:30 AM  Natural Diamonds: Origins, Grading, and Market Insights 

Description: Natural diamonds are rare and beautiful gemstones that formed deep within the Earth under extreme heat and pressure billions of years ago. Join GIA Technical Advisor, Lisa Kennedy, as she explores the fascinating journey of natural diamonds from their formation to their place in the modern marketplace. This seminar will cover the fundamentals of the 4Cs – cut, color, clarity, and carat weight – and how they are used to assess diamond quality. Participants will have the opportunity to examine diamonds under magnification, gaining hands-on experience to enhance their expertise and confidence when selling diamonds. 

9:45-11:15 AM  Beyond the Big Three: Unique Gems with Unique Stories 

Description: Rubies, sapphires, and emeralds may get most of the attention, but the gemstone world is full of unique and lesser-known gems with fascinating stories to tell. Join GIA Technical Advisor, Lisa Kennedy, as she takes you on a journey through an array of gems that deserve a closer look. Learn about the remarkable variety within the garnet family – including vibrant green and rare fluorescent types. Discover the difference between color change and color shift gems and examine eye-catching color zoning patterns that make each of these stones truly one-of-a- kind. Participants will have the opportunity to view some of these gems under magnification, gaining a deeper appreciation and understanding of what makes them so special.

Description: From their breathtaking hues to their record-breaking auction prices, colored diamonds have long captured the imagination of collectors, gem lovers, and historians alike. With only a handful mined each year, most colored diamonds in today’s market are rare treasures that often reappear in auctions over time. Join GIA Technical Advisor, Lisa Kennedy, as she explains how these gems are graded differently from traditional D-to-Z diamonds, and how factors like color intensity, rarity, and provenance drive their exceptional value. The seminar also highlights some of the most remarkable colored diamond auction results, showcasing the global fascination with these one-of-a-kind treasures.
